Birkdale Village is a one-stop destination in the heart of Huntersville. The open-air mall boasts 60 retail stores — some chain, some boutique — 10 restaurants and a movie theater. It attracts people of all ages, but the interactive fountain is a favorite of the littler ones. Parents order Brixx pizza to go, eat on the bench and watch their kids splash through the water. Live music electrifies the air on weekends, and the Christmas parade is a must see. Greg Martin, owner of Martin Group Properties, describes it as a family-friendly vacation atmosphere.
Within walking distance of Vermillion, residents can enjoy historic downtown Huntersville. Spend a Saturday morning getting breakfast at Café 100 or take the family over to Mama Mia located in the historic Holbrook House for a delicious Italian dinner. Only 10 minutes south on Gilead Road is Discovery Place Kids. As Martin described it to me, it was obvious he’d frequented the attraction with his kids more than a few times. He detailed hands-on play with water elements, live performances every hour, and a big indoor playground. Kids shop in the grocery store, ride the farm tractor and stop by the bank. “It’s amazing for younger kids,” he says.
Elizabeth Grillo of EG Real Estate Consultants says now is the time to purchase in Huntersville. “It’s an incredible bargain, because it’s growing." She says there’s nowhere else near town where you can find a house full of upgrades on a spacious lot for the same price. “It’s near parks, surrounded by farms and mature neighborhoods, walking trails and beautiful trees.” Plus, it has a robust blend of old, established neighborhoods and new, developing communities, many of which boast family-friendly amenities and varied price points.
