Uptown Charlotte Homes for Sale and Real Estate

Area Description

Every community in the greater Charlotte area boasts its own vibe and its own unique standout amenities, but each is graded on one constant — its access to center city. Or to put it another way: All roads lead to Uptown. In the past decade, Uptown has undergone an extensive transformation of its own, evolving from a nine-to-five office park to a thriving urban utopia. Shane McDevitt, owner of The McDevitt Agency, moved to Charlotte nearly 20 years ago and says it’s a completely different city today. “Uptown went from being a ‘ghost town’ after 5 p.m. and on the weekends to being a vibrant metropolis city with plenty of action day and night, seven days a week!” High-rise condos light up the skyline. The streets swell with the fierce hum of the Carolina Panthers, roaring from the Bank of America Stadium. And culture pervades from museums and theatres.

Around the Area

It offers the big city vibe without compromising Southern friendliness and charm. “I think that appeals to a lot of people locally,” says McDevitt, “and especially to the many people relocating from bigger cities.” But urban living isn’t just for young professionals. Jack Marinelli with Helen Adams Realty continues to be impressed by the diversity of Charlotte’s growth. “I’ve worked with four different empty nester clients in the past few months,” he says. They all set their sights on Uptown because of its walkability and cleanliness. “This really speaks to how far Uptown has come in the eyes of buyers.”

The variety of condominium buildings speaks to the diversity of the growing population. Each has its own personality, Marinelli says. “From The Ratcliffe to The Fourth Ward Square, Fifth & Poplar to St. Peter’s, and from Trademark to The Avenue — there are enough choices to fit the tastes of each different buyer.” Market sales in 2015 reflect center city’s popularity among buyers, says Marinelli, with an increase in number of units sold and an increase in the median sales price in 2015, compared with the previous year.

On top of Uptown’s cultural offerings, day-to-day amenities are also plentiful. Residents walk to Harris Teeter and Publix for groceries. In 2017, Whole Foods is slated to open its 47,000 sq. ft. store at the corner of Caldwell and Stonewall streets. Drug stores are peppered throughout main streets. “It really has everything,” says Joe Sibielski with Premier Sotheby’s International Realty. “With the number of new condos, apartments, hotels and office buildings on the way,” says McDevitt, “we’ll soon be hitting the critical population mass that bigger retailers want in order to finally get quality shopping in Uptown!” He projects 2016 as the year for retail growth.

The EpiCentre complex another Uptown hotspot. Here, residents can experience a diverse sampling of restaurants, bars and nightclubs. The EpiCentre also boasts a movie theater and bowling alley.
